Dear Fellow Graphic Design Alumni,
Have you ever had junior designers roll their eyes when you insist that they sketch with pencil and paper, rather than heading straight for the computer? Has a client looked at you like you were crazy when you propose taking a few weeks to come up with initial ideas for a project? Have you tried to explain overlays, or masks to someone who’s never done a mechanical? Drawn a beautiful curve with a brush that just doesn’t translate to Bezier?
Wouldn’t you like to see how the University of the Arts/PCA has always kept up with the evolving world of Graphic Design and still maintained its soul?
Help us show how!
In conjunction with Alumni Weekend (Oct 16-18, 2009), we are putting together a show of GD student work over the years. We would like to show the evolution of the UArts Graphic Design program through past student work – how it’s changed over time, maintained its emphasis on fundamental design principles, kept its process-oriented approach, and prepared students over the years for the design profession (and life) when they graduate.
The show will be about history, joy, frustration, and our collective experiences in this crazy, inventive program.
We’d like your help in creating this show. If by chance, you still have in your possession any original student work – plaka boards, painted posters, descriptive drawings, object translations, sketches, dots & lines projects, icon explorations, graphic identity proposals – we’d love to include them in the show. Even mechanicals! (Current students have no idea what that means!) And don’t worry about UPB (unsightly plaka build-up). It’s a badge.
Please send or deliver work ready-to-hang (need not be framed, but could be—pushpins and student work are natural friends) to:
